Artist and cultural producer, Katharina Becklas, was resident in Dolgarrog in Wales during October 2025 to explore people's relationship with freshwater. Organised as part of our Exploring Flows activities, Katharina said "This is my first visit to Wales. I grew up in the countryside and I have always felt a deep connection with nature - water, in particular, is my element. The project connects art, water, and the politics of freshwater and it immediately caught my attention. I am very interested in the ecological and political elements of the subject.”
Following nearly two weeks in Wales we recorded a podcast conversation about the process, inspired by diatoms, fresh water and the freedom explore and to be creative.. During her time in Wales she has been in conversation with lots of different people at a variety of different events, created props and costumes for us to use in future watery events, made creatures that live in water and challenged us to include more wild creations in our future engagement activities.
